Quick Trip to Chicago

We delivered Robert's car back to his Navy residence at Great Lakes, Illinois. On our drive to Chicago, we briefly stopped to visit Kay's Mom in Tucson before traveling on to Cyprus, TX to visit daughter Jana and family. We stayed there a couple nights and we got to babysit grandson, Timmy, one of the days. See pictures we took playing out front with him!

Saturday morning we continued toward Chacago, stopping that evening to stay at Cousin, Sandy Ball's home in Winfield, KS. The next morning was Easter Sunday and we went to church with Sandy. Sadly, we couldn't stay long and took off for Topeka, KS around 2 pm. We next visited Kay's Cousin's, Susan Winter's home and got to know Susan and husband, Mit, a little better. We are so fortunate to have such wonderful family across the country and are thankful for their gracious houspitality. We arrived in Chicago after a five day transit and stayed Monday and Tuesday at Robert and Krista's house. It was good to see them all reunited again. Robert sure was glad to have his car!

Even though all visits were short, we will remember and cherish the memories. Hopefully, we can get some family visitors us at the old empty nest here in San Diego. Please!

Mazatlan '08

We got home late on Friday from Vegas. On Saturday we pulled the cold weather clothes out of our suitcases, threw in the summer things. Then we wrote our Christmas letter and got those mailed. Early Sunday we were off to LA to catch a flight to Cabo San Lucas. We spent one night there, then off to Mazatlan.

The car rental company in Cabo, put a $1500 hold on our account.so we only had about $40 cash between us. for the rest of the week. We managed to get our taxi rides to and from the airport. Meals, a massage, and a tour by attending timeshare presentations. The cash we had covered tips and bus fares until our account was released. We ate so well, my exgallbladder gave me trouble.

At one of the timeshare presentations we went to we got a free tour of Quelite. A small picturesque town not too far from Mazatlan. This shot is overlooking the town. There is a shrine at the top of this hill. These two boys have their pet roosters.

This was our tour guide. He spoke very good English.

The guide paid the boys to fight their roosters. They did for about 30 seconds then picked up their birds and checked them very carefully for wounds. For all Kay cared, they didn't need to fight them.

This was the restaurant where we ate lunch. They had a very nice patio that was very cool and comfortable. Good food.

This is a tortilla stove. You just lay them on top and let them cook. Of course you have to build a fire first. Patio is to the left.
Our guide was obsessed with the bathrooms in the restaurants. The keys are the on/off knobs. The water comes out of the trmpets.

This is one of the mens rooms we saw. The urinal was a carved out hog sculpture. You can see a small part of it.

This milk was left outside the cheese factory. It had dirt, flies and other small bugs floating on it. They will make it into cheese the next day. They certainly don't have the same standards as the US!

Our guide with the fighting rooster farm behind him. Roosters can go for thousands of dollars.

This wasn't a staged tourist thing.

Sunset from our balcony

There was a gorgeous sunset every night.

We were serenaded at dinner at the El Cid Marina.

Las Vegas

First we stayed at the Cancun for 5 days, then moved over to the Grand Chateau for a week. David and Dez and their friends, John and Sarah Baza, joined us there.

This was the view from our room.

We had a ham dinner here. With the living room chairs we were able to seat all of us including Laura's family. We had a spectacular view from our suite.

St George, Utah

On our way from Brian Head we stopped in St George to see the Temple and visit the visitors center.
It looked like fall there.

Thanksgiving in Brian Head, Utah

We went to Brian Head for Thanksgiving. Laura and David joined us so it was lots of fun being with her and her two girls, and David. It snowed the day we went there so David had trouble getting up the mountain. He spent two hours laying in the snow and muck trying to get his chains on. They got there only about one half hour before us. We had no trouble getting up the mountain. We took it slow, and it looked freshly plowed and sanded.
It snowed all day Thanksgiving. Laura and Kay suffered from altitude sickness so got a slow start on dinner. "Emergen C" came to their rescue. Dinner was great and we had lots of leftovers. Ate out only once the whole weekend.
We went for a sleigh ride, played in the snow, the girls went swimming, and went to a campfire and ate S'mores. We all played dominoes and the girls had fun playing with the dominoes.
The pictures are in reverse order.
